Wheat Free Doggie Crisps

contributed by Helen Redlus

Since Mozart is allergic to wheat I make these doggie crisps using barley flour. However, if your dog tolerates wheat, it works great with wheat flour, too. Enjoy!

  • 1-1/4 cup Barley Flour (or Wheat Flour)
  • 3 Tblspns Oil
  • 1/3 cup Water ¹
  • 1/2 tspn bone meal (optional)

Mix the oil with the water, then add to flour. Mix well. Roll out really thin on cookie sheet and score with knife or pizza cutter. Bake until golden brown in 350 degree oven. Break apart when cool.

¹ Note: Instead of plain water, I sometimes cook up a pot of veggies and use the flavored stock.

Rice flour does not work well for this recipe. It is much too granular and won't stay together. Most health food stores should have barley flour.

They store fairly well in a Tupperware container, especially in the fridge.

If your dog suffers from food allergies, you should avoid corn oil. Regular vegetable oil works well.
