"Rocket is a wonderful and affectionate Golden Retriever who found himself in a desperate situation. See...Rockets 'family' no longer wanted him. He wasn't the cute little puppy that was given to them anymore. Rocket was always an outside dog who was very underweight and starving for not only food, but attention too. After Rocket had grown up on them, they put out a "FREE AKC Golden Retriever Unaltered Male" ad in the local paper. I was trying to take a break from rescue, but that only seems to last as long as the next dog that comes along. When I seen the ad, I could not get it out of my head that some puppy mill was going to get him or worse, a fighting dog raiser.
When I went to get him, I could tell Rocket was abused. His owner tried to kick him a few times while I was there and I was glad to get him out of that situation and assure him a wonderful home. They never asked me one question regarding my qualifications. I was able to get one of the local Multi-Breed Rescue groups to take him in under her wing, but she financially couldn't handle what was about to happen. Rocket of course was neutered, and put up to date on his vaccinations, and put on Heartworm and flea control/preventative.
We soon found out Rocket had Entropion. Entropion for those that don't know is a disorder that causes the lower eye lids to fold in. Causing tremendous discomfort for Rocket and it very well could have caused damage to his eye if it wasn't corrected. Since the rescue didn't have the funds needed to treat Rockets condition with out keeping him in rescue for months while trying to get donations to cover the cost, we asked Goldstock Fund for assistance. Thanks to the wonderful folks at Goldstock, they approved VERY quickly to resolve this and within a week, Rocket had his surgery and is a VERY happy boy. A little over a week after his surgery he was ready to go to a wonderful home in Eastern North Carolina. We could tell right away that Rocket was glad to not have such a painful condition. His temperament is so awesome, he let his Doctor remove his stitches without anesthesia or any other medications. He patiently waited for her to finish. What a GUY!

I have to say the rescue community is truly amazing and I will never forget any of you. From the rescue that took him under their wing, to The Goldstock Fund for their generous support, and the volunteer that drove 1.5 hours to do a home visit that allowed him to go to such a wonderful place. Thank you too everyone, but especially The Goldstock Fund for taking away his pain."
