  1. Take the puppy out frequently and gently praise the puppy. WHILE the puppy is producing urine or feces. Always say 'let's go outside' when you take the puppy outside.
  2. When the puppy is in the house, ONE RESPONSIBLE person needs to watch the puppy 100 percent of the time or confine the puppy to a small area (a crate is recommended) where the puppy will not urinate or defecate. You must NOT keep the puppy in the crate longer than the puppy can hold its urine and feces.
  3. Clean all areas that the puppy has urinated or defecated in the house with an active enzyme cleaner specifically sold to eliminate the odor. Ask your pet supply store to recommend a good product.
  4. When you are watching the puppy, if the puppy squats in the house, say: 'GO OUTSIDE !' in a stern voice, and then get the puppy outside right away.
